The Law of Attraction

The law of attraction is a topic has been coming up a lot for me lately and it is honestly one I really love to talk about. I am compelled to write about it even though many of the greats that have gone before me have done this already. This may not be anything new, but it may be new to you.

Many of you are thinking; yes I know about the law of attraction or have read the Secret or some other book on the topic. Others will say yeah I’ve heard of it, but it’s a load of hogwash (or fill in the expletive you would rather use), and some of you have no idea what I’m talking about.

If you are in the first category I don’t have to explain why this is so great and if you are in the second or third category just have an open mind and remember that everything new is unknown until you take it for a spin. Think of all the unknowns you have been introduced to before and are now part of your every day life. You didn’t know math until you learned it and practiced it, you didn’t know how to play the guitar (or play soccer, or dance, or anything else) before you learned how and practiced, you didn’t eat sushi until you did, and you didn’t know how to do your job before you learned how and then kept doing it over and over until it was second nature. The Law of Attraction is no different so here we go, let’s talk about it and then you can start to practice.

The Law of Attraction is a Universal Law and is true whether you believe it or not. Put it up there with the law of gravity as universal and true regardless of whether you understand it or not. The law of attraction says that what you think about you bring about or what you focus on expands. Like attracts Like!

“A person is what he or she thinks about all day long.”~ Ralph Waldo Emerson

The thing with this law is that it goes for everything, the positive and the negative. If you focus on good people being in your life you will see and have good people in your life and they will expand in numbers right in front of you. If you focus on people being bad or negative, if you focus on not being able to trust others of focus on not believing what people say than those are the type of people who will be brought into your life. Seriously think about it, what you focus on expands and the Universe is literal so whatever you think about expands.

You can play with this idea yourself. Pick anything and see how this works. Do you play golf, shoot pool, bowl, or play any sort of sport or game? Have you ever gone into the game with that negative I’m going to loose feeling or the “I’m having a bad day” attitude? What came of that experience, I bet the outcome was not so great. How about the last time you went in with the attitude that you were going to win, have fun, and learn something new; how did that turn out? I bet it turned out differently and that is because what you focus on expands.

“Your imagination is your preview of life’s coming attractions.”~ Albert Einstein

Is the glass half empty or half full? I know that’s not a new question, I am not asking it for the first time and it’s not the first time you have heard it. However when you look at it from the perspective of the law of attraction it looks like this. People who see the glass as half empty are people that bring scarcity into their life because what they see is what is missing, what they don’t have, the lack in their life. The Half full people bring fulfillment and abundance into their life because what they see is what they have in front of them and they know there is plenty to go around, everything is abundant.

Come on think about it. You know someone, maybe it’s you, maybe it’s your mom, your brother, your boss; anyone, but you know them. They are the people who only see what’s wrong and what’s broken. They are the people who can only see why something won’t work and can’t even being to think of why or how it can work.

These are the people who live in scarcity, the people who have the failing relationships, the broke down car, the lack of funds, the boss that is always yelling at them, the kids who aren’t trying hard enough, or anything else that can be tied to scarcity. We all know these people and sometimes we are these people. The only difference between them and the people who seem to be happy and have more than enough is the way they think and what they focus on.

Imagine what could be possible if you focus on what you like? What would be different if you focused on all that you want, all that you love, and all that brings you passion and joy? What would be different if all you saw were solutions, opportunities, and possibilities? Seriously I’m asking you what would be different? What would be possible? Would it be worth it?

“Whether you think you can or think you can’t, either way you are right.”~ Henry Ford

Maybe that focus is small, the one thing you like about work, the one thing that you are grateful for, and the one thing that brings you joy. Maybe the focus is on your hobby or past time, and what you love about it. If you were to focus on what brings you passion and fulfillment the Universe will respond with more opportunities to have that passion and fulfillment in your life. You can brush this off as crazy talk or you can just give it a try. What do you have to loose other than a lot of negative focus and scarcity?

This happens all the time for me. When I focus on bringing in the right people at the right time that can help me with my goals or business, the next thing I know they show up. People I have forgotten about, people I emailed months ago who are just now responding, but they show up when my focus is on the right people showing up. I don’t have to know who is going to show up, just that good people who want to help me and believe the same things I believe are going to show up. The law of attraction does the rest. Don’t get hung up in the how, just focus on what you want in your life.

This happened recently for a coaching client of mine. We were talking about what he wanted to do at work and instead of being focused on not knowing or not seeing how to make it happen he focused on what he wanted. Literally within days the CIO came to him, with an important project that was exactly what my client wanted to do. He didn’t have to ask for it, he didn’t have to work to figure out how he would get a new project, all he had to do was have the intention and focus on what he wanted and the law of attraction does what it always does, it responded.

And you may be one of those glass is half empty folks thinking sure that’s great, what a coincidence, but I could tell you countless stores from personal experience and from my clients who have done just that, focused on what they wanted, and in very short order what they wanted showed up. I could also tell you plenty of stories where the focus was on what the person did not want and guess what, that showed up too.

So if you are going to take a chance and say this stuff doesn’t work just do me a favor and take the side of caution the next time you start to think about what might go wrong or what it is that you don’t want. Maybe just maybe you will try focusing on what might go right and what it is you do want instead.

Remember this is nothing I’ve made up; this is not my unique message. This goes back a very long time and lots of famous people have been quoted on this very topic, as I’ve shared with you throughout this article. Now it’s time for you to decide if you want to let the law of attraction work for you or against you because regardless of what you believe it is working.
